Spiritual growth in a time of crisis

The corona virus pandemic is posing a massive challenge to humanity. It is a crisis on a world wide scale unlike anything that most of us in the Western world have ever faced. In any crisis there are opportunities and, without downplaying the trauma that these present events are visiting on all of our lives,  what follows is a discussion on how we can use this current crisis to build a stronger connection to the spiritual realm.

A Healthy Aura

Energy Body

When we address complex problems in our lives or in society these days we typically respond on at least three levels – the physical level, the emotional level and the mental level. So for example with the corona virus there is a massive mobilisation of physical resources underway. Nurses, doctors, administrators and a range of other professionals are trained on how to use these resources to facilitate the healing of those suffering from the virus. These skills along with the skilled procurement of the resources, the logistics of their deployment and the rapid restructuring of society to slow the escalation of the virus are all features of the mental response i.e. we are using our minds in order to figure out how to deal with the problem. We also use the mental faculty to address the emotional impact of the problem. So the training received by psychotherapists as well as their own innovative interpretations of that training is being used on a large scale to help people deal with the significant psychological trauma brought about by this crisis. Psychotherapists and indeed government spokespeople are providing advice to people and presenting them with techniques and strategies to help them reduce their stress levels and cope better with the emotional impact of the problem. It is now understood that by reducing our emotions around a topic we are better able to respond on the mental and physical level. Our response is most likely to be clearer, sharper and more effective. So work on this level is vital.

In many of today’s spiritual or esoteric schools, we find these three levels represented as realms of consciousness. But there is also one other. It is the one that a great many of us in the western world have almost totally quarantined and yet is so necessary to the successful resolution of a problem of this magnitude. I speak of the spiritual realm. In esoteric studies we theorise that human consciousness typically favours one of these four realms and that the human views the world and acts according to the realm within which his/her consciousness is predominantly lodged. (A more detailed study reveals that humans are composed of four energy bodies and each of these corresponds to a realm or plane of consciousness- but this is a discussion beyond the scope of this article). A balanced human divides its consciousness across all four realms – an achievement that is extremely rare at the moment. It took us countless generations to learn the physical, emotional and mental skills that we are now using with relative ease. Our next challenge is to learn how to operate on the spiritual realm once again – for most of us have parked any serious study of this area. The crisis precipitated by the coronavirus provides us with a golden opportunity to do just that.

The spiritual realm – like each of the other realms, like all things in life, is composed of energy. For those who work in the world of energy healing it is known that spiritual energy is of a much more refined quality than energies surrounding the physical body. It is also extremely powerful and in certain circumstances can be very destructive. In certain forms of energy healing spiritual energy is used to destroy negative thoughts and emotions.
These thought-forms when generated by the person, lodge in their energy bodies as a sort of dark or grayish energy that, when present in sufficient quantities will literally cloud the thinking of the person. In certain circumstances, depending on the energy form – it may lead the person to carry out acts that they had not intended to do. What is true on the micro is also true on the macro and the generation of spiritual energy by a large amount of people will greatly dissipate the negative thoughts and emotions created at a planetary level as a result of the coronavirus. This cleansing will in turn lead to greater clarity of thinking and focused action on the physical and mental realm.

You don’t have to be an energy healer to utilize spiritual energy in this way. This work on the spiritual realm is work that everybody in the world can participate in. It is very simple and its effects will be felt on the personal level through the dissipation of the negative emotions that are causing you harm. I cannot prove this to you, for the vast majority of science is ignoring (even actively undermining) these theories. But if you wish to try this approach then I recommend implementing just one of the practices listed below over a period of one month. Observe – journal if you can – your state of mind throughout the period. That is the scientific approach. Then you will know the truth, or not of these words.

Spiritual Practices

1. Mindfulness:

Mindfulness is a fantastic practice for bringing stillness to the mind. It’s positive effect is now recognised in scientific studies. The practice of mindfulness is drawn from Zen Buddhism – so it has a spiritual origin. The energy healing explanation of mindfulness is that it opens up the energy centres at the top of the head and draws in spiritual energy which disintegrates negative thoughts and emotions in the energy body. It is important at the end of the practice to release the excess energy and this can be done by imagining energy going down it to the earth from the base of your spine and the soul of your feet for about 3 metres deep. Do this for a few seconds at the end.

2. Loving kindness or meta meditation:
Mindfulness and loving kindness meditations are very much linked. The former gathers energy into the energy body of the practitioner and the latter distributes it to others. It is not advised to practice mindfulness over an extended period without distributing the excess energy. Otherwise energetic congestion – and a consequent physical ailment – may occur. This is the reason why many eastern schools say at the beginning of meditation “may any benefit arising from this meditation go to those who need it” Mindfulness and meta courses and apps are available online.

3. Prayer:

Prayer is a fantastic and very simple way of drawing in spiritual energy. It is good to use prayer in the same way as meditation i.e. pray to relieve the suffering of others. I recommend saying the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi a few times each day. Alternatively you can ask for help for yourself using this very simple prayer adapted from a prayer devised by Marianne Williamson. “Lord I want to experience inner peace. I do not know how to achieve this. I leave the results in your hands. I ask this in humility and gratitude”.

4. Etheric hygiene
Cleaning your energy body and environment from negative energy is very helpful

For yourself:
– Take a salt bath once per week using a cup of regular rock salt. Stay in the bath for 20 minutes and shower off afterwards. If you don’t have a bath rub salt to your body during a shower (unless of course you have a skin condition which is aggravated by salt).

For your environment:

During this time with everybody indoors our combined thoughts will build up in the rooms of our houses. If these are predominantly negative they will form an unpleasant atmosphere. It is advisable to keep our houses etherically clean.

-Burn sandlewood or sage incense in family rooms and bedrooms at least once per week.

-Play the Om in your house for about an hour or so every week. It does not have to be very loud – barely audible is enough. The Om disintegrates negative energy.

It is different from the Aum which magnifies energy. Do not play the Aum.

-Use bells to disitegrate negative energy. In Ireland we have the Angelus broadcast at six pm every evening. Alternatively you can download bell sounds from the internet. I recommend ‘Longplayer live’ a continuous Tibetan singing bowl music project developed by Jim Finer. As sample is linked below. You can play it at a very low level also.

Experiment with the above techniques and choose the one that suits your circumstances.

5. Planetary meditation for peace
I highly recommend the daily practice of the planetary meditation for peace. This powerful healing meditation was devised by the teacher Master Cho Kok Sui, who had a detailed understanding of how energy works. You can access it at this link: http://ppmaudiostream.org/index.php/theplanetary-meditation-for-peace
Please follow the instructions and do the physical exercises as directed.

I hope that some of these techniques bring you benefit. I urge you to use this time to develop your knowledge and practice of spirituality.
